Social Media Convention

Uganda / 22 sep 2017

Civil Society Cyber Task Force in Uganda (CSCTFU) a coalition of nine (9) civil society organizations proposes to hold a social media convention to create awareness on restrictive cyber laws. The two day event will be held in collaboration with Makerere University Schools of Law and Journalism; and will target the young people and citizens. The Convention will interrogate and amplify cyber rights violations in the country; and be a catalyst for the Cyber Task Force to organize collective actions to protect, defend and expand civic and political space. A panellist of scholars, government technocrats and social media activists will share their views and experiences on cyber restrictions and propose non-violent push back mechanisms. The event will be broadcast live on television, and will also be streamed live on social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. Journalism and communication students will be involved in an essay competition.
